The Downsides of Waterproof Mascara
Waterproof mascara in many ways seems like the most impactful choice when you are selecting your beauty product of choice – I mean, who would prefer an alternative product that doesn’t tout this benefit from a pure logical standpoint?
But for many of our clients and those considering Lash Extensions or any lash service, we often speak to waterproof mascara from the perspective of what you are opening yourself up to when you opt for a convenient product.
They Are Effective… Unfortunately
The issue with this is it’s actually effective at staying on – but you may be thinking:
“Why would that be such a bad thing that it stays on throughout the day?”
Great question! It matters more so that this will have an impact on the force it takes to actually remove the waterproof mascara. See, by design, waterproof mascara isn’t meant to come off so easily – and certainly introducing water isn’t going to wash the issue away. But that’s what you signed up for. So when it comes to actually taking it off, you have to scrub using a little more elbow grease. The best way to remove waterproof mascara is a multi step approach that most don’t have the time for. So just by rubbing a little harder may get the job done, but you’ve done more harm than good. And over the course of the day, your mascara may have gotten the job done but in the process you’ve massively dried out the lash. Over time, this will have adverse effects on the overall health of the lash. This sort of trauma is precisely what leads to breakage.
A Night-Time Nightmare
But the fact remains, we can’t stop you from getting waterproof mascara should your heart be set on it. But if that’s the case, do everything in your power to make time habitually to remove thoroughly any residual mascara from your daily application. The catch 22 of this conundrum is that the longer it stays on during the day, the harder it is to get off. In conjunction with the point in the paragraph above, this makes it very, very difficult to properly remove – keyword properly.By night time, many people are too tired to actually go remove the waterproof mascara.
Much like your hair on your head, the long-term effects of constant product application coupled with poor routine maintenance, you begin to damage your lashes in a way that is difficult to reverse. So while you may not see the actual damage in the form of lost lashes, you’ll likely notice the more you wear the mascara to bed, the easier you break off your natural lashes – which are very difficult to fully repair especially when this process is repeated.
Waterproof Mascara – The Final Word
The trick is changing the conversation to be about what you are sacrificing by choosing waterproof mascara. The amount of damage you do to your natural lashes does not compensate for what you are gaining from even the best waterproof mascara product on the market.
