Artist’s Opinion – Makara Barger

As the owner and lifelong beauty artist, I’ve worked with so many different people that all have different types of experiences with microblading. I myself still can recall having microblading done for the first time. It was when I was “brand new” to Cincinnati and really didn’t have any artist to turn to that I trusted. I was so nervous for all the same reasons you are.

But just because I have done this for years and have made a career out of it, doesn’t mean I’m immune to those fears. In fact, when I think back to those days, I can vividly remember having so many things run through my mind.  I don’t know about you, but these thoughts, questions, and fear were on repeat in my head:

“Are they going to look like sharpies?”

“Will they look fake?”

“How will I ever decide on a color or shape that I want FOREVER?”

Even before I got my microblading, I had worked in the industry for many years. Even today after spending 18+ years in beauty, I can struggle with this. But I’ll let you in on the secret that worked for me and why I run Lavish Cincinnati the way I do.

I focus on how the artist explains their vision, the work, and the just the overall service to me. While the quality of work of course is important, the most important thing to me is that an artist can understand what I am picturing in my head or even showing them and then give me that look.

I’ve noticed that the better an artist can explain things in the simplest forms, the more they are able to bring my own vision to life. 

There are many things you can research and make sure exists before booking your beauty service. I’ll list a couple things that are available externally so you can vet any artist you are considering more effectively. 

Do They Have A Beauty Blog?

You can usually check their website to see if they manage their own blog. If an artist manages a blog, it’s likely they are open and willing to not only have a conversation with you about their process, it shows they are aware at how important it is to show the customer that their trust is critical. Is Their Portfolio Available?

This may seem obvious but you’d be surprised at how often an artist won’t make their work available to view publicly. While this doesn’t guarantee you can trust the artist, it does show they are open to anyone seeing their work anytime. It also touches on the point mentioned above about an artist understanding that your trust is important. It’s just an overall good sign and a very helpful way to know if the artist’s style matches what you are looking for. Choosing Your Artist – Closing Thoughts

Back to the story when I got my microblading, I just followed the steps above. Once I realized how lifechanging the service was for me, I knew I wanted to give this gift to others.
